When Marie and I first started dating, I was very reluctant about having her sleep over.
“I look like a grease-ball past 11 pm, I want you to know”, I cautiously warned, hoping to keep the romance of the relationship and mystery of my soft smooth skin alive for just a bit longer. However, to my surprise, she gave a chipper “same!” And now here we are a year later, slathered in various creams and ointments every night together. I love hearing about skin care routines, and hearing about two in one go sounded like a cute idea to me, as my philosophy is “couples that can do face masks together, stay together”. So here’s ours!
Describe your skin
Marie: My skin used to be very dry but now its mixed (combination) to dry.
Destiny: My skin gets pretty oily in the T-zone during the day, and I tend to get eczema around my lips, so its pretty textbook combination.
What is the goal of your skincare
M: I like my skincare keepin’ me fresh, limiting my breakouts (though I have few), and to create a process that I enjoy doing.
D: Due to my eczema I have to keep my skin extra moisturized to avoid discoloration, and I also like it to keep my skin texture nice and create a good base for my makeup.
M: I usually wash my face in the shower in the morning. I use the Avene Foam Cleanser. I also really care about my body skin as well so I try to use shower gel meant for babies or with as little ingredients as possible. Depending on the season, I use Bioderma Sensibio (Créaline) Riche Crème for sensitive skin or Destiny’s Pond’s Dry Skin Cream on my face if I really need it. For my body, I use Palmer’s Cocoa Butter if we have it (my expat GF impact, heyo!), or otherwise, I always grab the Mixa Intensif Peaux Sèches Lait corps Nutritif Satinant karité pur (it’s cheap and french lol).
D: I usually throw some water on my face to wake my self up and get rid of the crust on my face and start my routine. It’s accumulated into a lot of steps which I need to tone down, but I usually start with La Roche-Posay’s Serozinc, which is a water spray with zinc that is supposed to combat oiliness. When that dries, I use any random aloe vera on my face along with eczema cream and zit solution wherever necessary. For my zits, I use Vichy Normaderm Hyalu Spot treater. After that, I use the La Roche-Posay Hyrdaphase serum. This shit is so expensive but it’s my holy grail and I love it so much. If I’m dead from the night before, I’ll use the Origins Ginzing Illuminating Eye Cream. It’s eh. Then finally, I moisturize with good old Pond’s Dry Skin Cream, which I’ve been using since I was sixteen.
M: I use the Bioderma Sébium Serum for the night, but I don’t use this every day, only when I remember. It helps with scarring and doesn’t make me break out. I don’t use makeup so it’s relatively simple. I try to go to bed with really moisturized lips, but Destiny always purposely kisses it off.
D: My nighttime routine is way more chill than the daytime routine. I normally take off my makeup in the shower at night with the Nuxe Eau de mousse micellaire Foam Cleanser with Rose Petals. As for my shower items, I don’t really care about my body skin that much (oops), but I use Lush bar soap because bar soap is better for the environment. If I can be arsed to moisturized, I mix whatever lotion Marie’s bought and the Nuxe Huile prodigieuse for a luxurious feeling, but Marie has taken to doing this too, and more often, so we are all out of this expensive oil that neither of us will likely rebuy. If my makeup is still on my face, I wipe off the remains with the Bioderma Créaline TS H2O Solution Micellaire. I then use my jade roller Marie gifted me recently and massage my skin with this, either with no moisturizer or with my night serum, which is oddly soothing. I also regularly use the Bioderma Sébium Serum, mostly because Marie recommended it.
We both love face masks, so don’t stay very consistent with any particular one. Things we’ve had floating around the house are the Vichy Normaderm 3-in-1, Origins Clay Rose Mask, and whatever Tony Moly or Sephora masks that were on sale. Foodwise, we eat rather healthy (me, Destiny, mostly plant-based but Marie drinks a ton of water), and try to get a good amount of sleep a night. Skincare is body care and is about more than the products on your face!
M: Beautiful model sponsored by Bioderma
D: One trillion products for okay skin
